X launches Live Studio, announces $1 million creator payout program
X is expanding its push into the creator economy with the launch of Live Studio, a new livestreaming platform that simplifies broadcasting while introducing a $1 million creator payout program aimed at attracting more live content and competing directly with platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and Kick.

Announced by X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, the new initiative is designed to encourage creators to make livestreaming a bigger part of their content strategy. Bier revealed that X will distribute $1 million to eligible livestream creators during the next payout cycle, with additional details about the payment structure expected in the coming weeks.

Live Studio serves as a redesigned command center within X’s Creator Studio, replacing the company’s older Media Studio Producer. The platform gives creators a streamlined interface to launch broadcasts, schedule streams in advance, upload custom thumbnails, and create titles that appear before a livestream begins.

Creators can also choose who can access their broadcasts. Streams may be limited to verified users, followers, subscribers, or opened to the general public, offering greater flexibility depending on the audience a creator wants to reach.

Beyond broadcasting tools, Live Studio provides real-time analytics, allowing creators to monitor concurrent viewers, audience locations, device usage, and engagement during a livestream. Users can also manage live chat settings, including restricting comments exclusively to subscribers or opening discussions to everyone watching.

Although livestreaming has existed on X for several years, it has never become one of the platform’s defining features. Access remains exclusive to X Premium subscribers, who currently pay for the service as part of the platform’s premium membership offerings.

The rollout is currently limited to selected U.S. states and major international cities, including Mumbai, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney, Seoul, Paris, Frankfurt, Dublin, and SĂŁo Paulo, suggesting X is gradually testing the platform before expanding globally.

The launch also represents another step in Elon Musk’s effort to transform X into an all-in-one digital platform that combines social networking, video, payments, and creator monetization. However, questions remain about whether the company has resolved the technical challenges that have affected previous live broadcasts, including several high-profile Spaces events that experienced major outages.

Industry observers say the combination of improved livestreaming tools and financial incentives could help X attract more creators at a time when competition among social media platforms for exclusive content continues to intensify.
