Domino’s is giving away $1 million in free pizza after USMNT star’s red card
Domino’s is giving away $1 million worth of free “Emergency Pizzas” after U.S. soccer star Folarin Balogun’s red card triggered the company’s World Cup promotion, turning one of Team USA’s most dramatic tournament moments into an unexpected win for thousands of eligible fans.

The promotion was activated during the United States’ Round of 32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Balogun was sent off in the second half after receiving a red card. Despite being reduced to 10 players, the U.S. secured a memorable 1-0 victory thanks to Malik Tillman’s late free-kick goal in the 82nd minute, sending the Americans into the Round of 16 and ending a 24-year wait for a World Cup knockout-stage win.

Weeks before the tournament began, Domino’s announced that it would award $1 million worth of free medium “Emergency Pizzas” if any player from the U.S. men’s national team received a red card during the competition. The campaign was designed to ease the disappointment fans often feel after one of soccer’s most costly disciplinary decisions.

Balogun had been one of Team USA’s standout performers throughout the tournament, scoring his third goal before being dismissed. His suspension could now affect the U.S. squad in upcoming knockout matches, depending on FIFA’s disciplinary ruling.

An “Emergency Pizza” is part of Domino’s Rewards and allows eligible members to redeem a free medium two-topping pizza on a future order. Alongside the giveaway, the company also launched a limited-edition collaboration with football lifestyle brand Saturdays Football, featuring jerseys, caps, and slides inspired by the World Cup.

The giveaway, however, is limited to customers who registered on Domino’s website before June 10 and were enrolled in the Domino’s Rewards program. Eligible participants can redeem their free pizza through Sept. 2, 2026, under the promotion’s official terms.

The campaign has generated widespread attention on social media, with many fans celebrating the unusual connection between a red card and free pizza. Marketing experts say the promotion highlights how major brands are increasingly using global sporting events to create memorable consumer engagement while boosting loyalty programs.

Although Balogun’s dismissal temporarily complicated the U.S. team’s World Cup journey, it unexpectedly delivered a major reward for thousands of American soccer fans. The promotion has become one of the tournament’s most talked-about marketing campaigns, combining sports drama, brand engagement, and fan rewards in a uniquely memorable way.
