Lavazza introduces capsule-free espresso tablets to Americans

☕🇮🇹 Coffee giant Lavazza is making a bold move in the U.S. coffee market with the launch of **Tablì**, an innovative capsule-free espresso system designed to eliminate the plastic and aluminum waste associated with traditional single-serve coffee pods. The new technology uses compact discs made entirely from coffee, with no plastic shell, foil packaging, gelatin, or chemical binding agents, offering what the company describes as a more sustainable approach to home espresso brewing.

The launch marks the first international expansion of Tablì outside Italy and represents one of Lavazza’s biggest investments in North America. The company spent more than five years developing the technology, securing over 15 patents and building a dedicated manufacturing facility in Italy to produce the coffee tabs. The innovation stems from Lavazza’s acquisition of Italian startup Caffemotive and reflects growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly alternatives in everyday products.

Lavazza’s timing comes as the single-serve coffee market continues to be dominated by industry leaders such as Keurig and Nespresso. Rather than directly replacing those systems, Lavazza hopes to carve out a new category focused on sustainability, premium coffee experiences, and reduced household waste. The company’s North American business has already experienced strong growth, with regional revenues rising significantly in recent years.

Available initially through online preorders, the Tablì system includes a dedicated brewing machine and a selection of espresso blends designed specifically for the new format.
