# Apple Unveils Redesigned iPad Mini With OLED Display and A20 Pro Chip
Apple has introduced a redesigned iPad mini featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display, its A20 Pro processor and upgraded connectivity in a thinner, lighter design. The company describes the release as the most significant update to its compact tablet, while retaining its overall footprint despite the larger screen.
The new model measures just 5.4 millimeters thick and is available in midnight and starlight finishes. Its display features bezels that are 24% thinner than those of the previous generation, providing more screen space without substantially increasing the device's overall dimensions.
## OLED Display Brings Brighter Visuals
The redesigned iPad mini features a Super Retina XDR OLED display intended to deliver deeper blacks, richer colors and improved contrast. Apple says peak brightness reaches 1,200 nits, more than twice the level offered by the previous model.
The screen also supports full-screen brightness of 600 nits and can reduce brightness to as low as 1 nit for use in darker environments. Its contrast ratio reaches 2 million to 1.
Apple is also offering an optional nano-texture display designed to minimize glare in bright surroundings. The feature could benefit users who regularly work outdoors or use their tablets under strong lighting.
The device carries an IP67 rating for splash, water and dust resistance under controlled laboratory conditions. Apple cautions that resistance can decline with normal wear and that liquid damage is not covered under its warranty.
## A20 Pro Chip Targets Faster Performance and AI
At the heart of the new iPad mini is Apple's A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process. The processor includes a seven-core GPU with Neural Accelerators integrated into each graphics core.
According to Apple, the new chip delivers up to 4.5 times faster artificial intelligence performance and up to 2.7 times faster graphics performance compared with the previous generation. Multithreaded performance is also said to improve by as much as 60%.
The 512GB configuration includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine, which Apple says doubles processing power for supported AI workloads compared with the previous model.
These improvements are designed to support demanding applications, graphics-intensive tasks and AI-powered features directly on the device.
## Camera and Audio Improvements
The redesigned tablet includes a 12-megapixel front camera with Center Stage, positioned along the landscape edge to improve video calls and online meetings.
On the rear, a 12-megapixel camera supports Smart HDR 4 and 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second. An Adaptive True Tone flash is designed to improve photography in different lighting conditions and assist with document scanning.
Apple has also introduced an Acoustic Display system that integrates specially designed audio components into the tablet's construction. The company says the system improves bass response, overall volume and high-frequency clarity.
## Upgraded Wireless and Cellular Connectivity
Connectivity receives an upgrade through Apple's N1 wireless networking chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.
Cellular versions use Apple's C2 modem, which the company says enables data speeds up to 50% faster than those of the previous generation. These changes are intended to improve wireless performance and provide more reliable connectivity for users who depend on mobile data.
The tablet runs iPadOS 27, bringing updated multitasking capabilities and the next generation of Apple Intelligence features.
Apple's new Siri AI experience, which is rolling out in beta, is designed to use personal context and on-screen awareness to help users find information and complete tasks.
## Apple Pencil and Accessories
The new iPad mini supports both Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil with USB-C, allowing users to take notes, draw, annotate documents and work with compatible creative applications.
Apple is also introducing a redesigned Smart Folio accessory in navy blue and taupe. The cover offers adjustable viewing angles for different activities, including reading, video calls and watching content.
## Pricing and Availability
Apple says preorders will begin on Wednesday, October 28, with availability starting November 6.
In the United States, pricing starts at $699 for the Wi-Fi model and $849 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular version.
With its OLED screen, upgraded processor, improved cameras and expanded connectivity, the redesigned iPad mini focuses on delivering stronger performance and a more advanced display in a compact form. Its appeal will depend on how users value these improvements alongside the higher starting price.
