# Micron Introduces Global Quarterly Profit-Sharing Bonuses Following Union Demands in Taiwan
Micron Technology has announced a new quarterly bonus program for employees worldwide, linking additional compensation to company profits following calls from labor unions in Taiwan for greater profit-sharing and transparency.
The new payments will supplement the chipmaker’s existing annual incentive program and will be distributed equally, with 50% paid in cash and 50% in company shares. Micron is also improving benefits for employees in Taiwan by increasing retirement contributions and adding paid leave.
According to Taiwanese media outlets, including Taiwan Economic Daily and Minbo, the measures were announced as part of a broader organizational restructuring plan released on October 22.
Under the new system, quarterly bonuses will be calculated using net profit after tax, minus capital expenditures for the following quarter, with the final amount adjusted according to individual employee performance evaluations.
Employees rated “exceeds expectations” or “greatly exceeds expectations” will receive 110% of the standard bonus amount. Those rated “meets expectations” will receive the full amount, while employees rated “needs improvement” will receive 35%.
However, Micron has not disclosed the complete calculation formula, including the percentage of profits that will be allocated to the bonus pool, Business Korea reported.
Donghui Lu, chairman of Micron Taiwan, said the changes followed requests from labor unions in the Taoyuan and Taichung regions. He identified greater transparency and predictability in the bonus structure as key priorities raised by union representatives.
Lu also emphasized that the quarterly bonus is an additional benefit rather than a replacement for the company’s existing annual incentive program. The annual bonus will continue to emphasize long-term research and development and strategic objectives instead of focusing primarily on short-term profitability.
Alongside the new global bonus system, Micron plans to improve compensation and working conditions for employees in Taiwan. Retirement contributions will increase from 8% to 10%, while workers will receive three additional days of paid leave.
The company also plans structural wage increases to address pay disparities between newer employees and longer-serving staff, according to Business Korea.
Micron aims to finalize the changes by the second quarter of fiscal 2027 and, if possible, introduce them before the Lunar New Year.
The announcement comes as semiconductor manufacturers respond to growing demand for advanced chips and increased competition for skilled employees. By tying quarterly compensation to company performance while adjusting individual payouts according to evaluations, Micron is introducing a more frequent incentive structure for its global workforce.
Separately, Micron agreed earlier this month to pay Netlist Inc. $600 million to resolve a series of patent infringement disputes. Under the multiyear settlement, the company will make quarterly payments of $30 million.
The new employee bonus program and changes to Taiwan-based benefits represent separate developments in Micron’s compensation and business strategy, with the company seeking to address worker demands while maintaining a distinction between short-term performance incentives and longer-term corporate objectives.
