# Salesforce Shares Jump as Bank of America Upgrades Stock on Enterprise AI Potential

Salesforce shares climbed 3% after Bank of America upgraded the software company's stock to Buy from Underperform and raised its price target to $285 from $160, citing the potential for artificial intelligence to strengthen enterprise demand for its software platforms. The move reflects growing optimism that AI adoption could deepen companies' reliance on established business applications rather than make them obsolete.

The upgrade comes as Salesforce expands its AI strategy through new product capabilities and acquisitions, including analytics startup Loops. Bank of America's revised outlook suggests the company's existing software infrastructure could become more valuable as businesses integrate AI into their operations.

Analyst Tal Liani said his earlier concern was that AI could disintermediate traditional software providers by enabling businesses to develop their own tools or replace established applications. However, discussions with chief information officers and other market participants have led him to believe that large enterprises are unlikely to abandon platforms that manage their core business processes.

These systems hold critical company data, business logic, workflows and compliance frameworks, making them difficult to replace even as organizations adopt more advanced AI technologies. Instead, Liani expects AI to increase the importance of software platforms that already support enterprise operations.

“If anything, AI should deepen dependence on these platforms,” Liani wrote.

His assessment is based on Salesforce's approach to enterprise AI, which combines several layers of technology. The data layer provides governed business context, while applications such as Sales Cloud and Service Cloud manage established workflows and business logic.

Above these layers, Salesforce's Agentforce platform provides AI reasoning and orchestration capabilities. Slack and the Anthropic-powered Claude integration, known as Claudeforce, offer additional ways for employees to interact with business systems through natural language.

According to Liani, this architecture could give Salesforce an advantage as companies seek to deploy AI while maintaining control over their data, processes and regulatory obligations. He argued that so-called vibe coding and internally developed applications may be useful for individual tasks but can struggle with the complexity of enterprise-scale data management, governance and workflows.

“We believe Salesforce offers one of the most comprehensive approaches to enterprise AI adoption,” Liani added.

The analyst's comments highlight a broader debate about AI's impact on established software companies. While generative AI tools can help users build applications and automate tasks more quickly, large organizations must also consider security, data consistency, compliance and integration with existing systems. Salesforce is positioning its products as infrastructure through which businesses can introduce AI without rebuilding their operations from scratch.

The company's acquisition of Loops is another component of that strategy. The startup uses machine learning to examine business performance, explain changes in key metrics and identify potential opportunities. Salesforce plans to integrate Loops' technology into Tableau, its data visualization and analytics platform, potentially strengthening the analytical capabilities available to enterprise customers.

Despite the positive stock reaction, questions remain about how quickly Salesforce's AI investments will translate into meaningful revenue growth. Adoption may take longer than expected, and AI-related revenue currently represents a relatively small portion of the company's overall business. Investors will be looking for evidence that new products and features can generate additional sales, improve customer retention and support stronger growth.

Salesforce's workforce reductions also remain part of the company's recent business backdrop. Two months before the stock upgrade, the company announced cuts affecting 59 employees across its Seattle and Bellevue, Washington, offices, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice. The affected roles included software engineers, technical support engineers, incident commanders, product management directors and employees in marketing and sustainability leadership.

The company has also continued expanding its AI portfolio through acquisitions. Salesforce recently signed a definitive agreement to acquire Listen Labs, an AI-powered customer research and human simulation platform. The company said the deal would broaden its customer and user insights capabilities while complementing Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud and its wider AI offerings.

Together, these developments underscore Salesforce's effort to strengthen its position as businesses evaluate how to incorporate AI into their operations. Bank of America's upgrade indicates greater confidence that established enterprise software platforms will remain central to that transition. However, sustained investor enthusiasm will ultimately depend on whether Salesforce can convert its expanding AI capabilities and acquisition strategy into measurable commercial growth.
