# HubSpot to Lay Off 600 Employees as Company Accelerates AI-Focused Strategy
HubSpot, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based technology company, plans to eliminate approximately 600 jobs, representing about 7% of its workforce, as it reorganizes its operations around an artificial intelligence-focused strategy. The decision comes as software companies increasingly reassess their business models, product offerings and organizational structures to capitalize on AI-driven opportunities.
Chief Executive Officer Yamini Rangan announced the layoffs in a letter to employees, explaining that the company had shifted its priorities from developing software that helps customers grow to delivering measurable outcomes through AI.
“Over the past year, we have shifted our strategy from building software that helps customers grow to delivering outcomes for them with AI. That shift is transforming product, pricing and how we serve our customers,” Rangan wrote.
She said HubSpot needed to accelerate its transformation and simplify its organizational structure, including reducing management layers. Rangan emphasized that the job cuts were not simply a cost-cutting exercise or a direct response to efficiency gains from AI, but an effort to align the company's workforce with its evolving strategy.
“We believe in a world where AI helps make us more productive and we will continue to invest to make that happen,” she said. According to Rangan, the changes are intended to position HubSpot to operate more effectively as it pursues its future business priorities.
## Severance and Support for Affected Employees
HubSpot said employees affected by the layoffs will receive 20 weeks of base pay, plus an additional week for each year of service, subject to a maximum of 30 weeks. The company will also provide five months of health care benefits and career transition assistance.
Rangan acknowledged the difficulty of making the reductions, even as the company directs resources toward what it considers its largest growth opportunities. She said HubSpot had been deliberate about balancing investments in AI with its objectives for growth and profitability.
The CEO also noted that the company had maintained a slower pace of headcount growth than revenue and intended to continue that approach. The restructuring reflects a broader effort to prioritize investments and streamline the organization as AI changes how the company develops and delivers its products.
## AI Transformation Comes Amid Revenue Growth
The layoffs follow a period of strong financial performance for HubSpot. In its August earnings report, the company said second-quarter revenue increased 20% to nearly $912 million.
Despite that growth, management has emphasized the need to make strategic choices that support the company's long-term AI ambitions. Rangan previously said HubSpot had made deliberate decisions to accelerate its AI transformation, describing the technology shift as an opportunity to expand the company's potential market.
“The AI shift unlocks a much larger opportunity for HubSpot, and I’m confident these choices position us to drive long-term, compounding growth,” she said in earlier remarks.
The restructuring highlights the distinction between a company's current financial performance and its decisions about future growth. HubSpot is seeking to adapt its products, pricing and customer services to an AI-driven environment while managing its workforce and operating expenses.
## Technology Sector Continues to See Job Cuts
HubSpot's announcement adds to a series of workforce reductions across the technology industry. Amazon recently announced another round of job cuts affecting fewer than 1,000 corporate employees, according to Reuters and Business Insider reports citing company representatives. Workday has also announced plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 2.5%, affecting around 525 employees.
Several technology companies have cited AI-focused strategies as part of broader organizational changes, although the reasons for individual layoffs vary. Businesses are adjusting hiring plans, consolidating management structures and redirecting investments as they evaluate how AI may change products, services and internal operations.
According to Layoffs.fyi, a website that tracks technology-sector job reductions, 131,382 technology employees had been laid off across 315 companies as of the period cited in the report.
For HubSpot, the latest reductions mark another stage in its effort to reshape the business around AI-enabled customer outcomes. The company says its objective is to focus resources on the most promising opportunities while balancing productivity, investment and sustainable growth.
