Microsoft’s Xbox has reportedly secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for *Grand Theft Auto 6*, giving the company a potentially significant advantage ahead of Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated new release.

Under the reported agreement, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be able to stream *GTA 6* when the game launches on November 19. The deal could prove strategically important for Microsoft, with the latest entry in Rockstar’s blockbuster franchise expected to draw millions of players and potentially introduce a large new audience to Xbox’s cloud gaming service.

Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, reportedly told employees during an internal meeting that Microsoft was preparing a major *GTA 6*-related offering that would not be available on competing platforms.

The reported arrangement comes as Microsoft continues to expand its strategy of making Xbox games accessible beyond traditional consoles. Cloud gaming has become an increasingly important part of that approach, allowing players to access games through supported devices without relying entirely on local installations.

*GTA 6* is scheduled to launch initially on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not yet announced a release date for the PC edition, leaving console players as the initial audience for the highly anticipated title.

For Xbox, the ability to stream *GTA 6* through its cloud service could provide an additional incentive for players to remain within the company’s gaming ecosystem. However, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has reportedly clarified that the game will not be available for cloud streaming on PC at launch.

Microsoft is also preparing a new pay-as-you-go model that could allow players to purchase cloud gaming time without maintaining a Game Pass subscription. The move would give users another way to access Xbox’s streaming infrastructure while potentially creating an additional source of revenue for Microsoft.

The company is simultaneously restructuring cloud gaming access across its Game Pass subscription tiers. The changes are designed to make streaming more flexible while encouraging different categories of players to use Xbox’s cloud platform according to their gaming habits.

According to The Verge, Xbox Cloud Gaming could limit monthly streaming access to 15 hours for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers and 10 hours for Premium subscribers. Essential subscribers could receive five hours of monthly cloud gaming access.

The reported *GTA 6* streaming arrangement comes at a crucial time for Microsoft as the company continues to reshape its gaming business and expand Xbox beyond hardware sales. Cloud access allows Microsoft to reach players who may not own an Xbox console but still want access to major titles.

Rockstar’s previous installment, *Grand Theft Auto 5*, became one of the most commercially successful video games ever released and maintained a massive player base years after its original launch. Expectations surrounding *GTA 6* are therefore exceptionally high.
