### Elon Musk Regains Trillionaire Status as SpaceX and Tesla Shares Surge
Elon Musk has once again become the world’s richest person after his estimated fortune climbed above $1 trillion, helped by a sharp rise in SpaceX shares and gains in Tesla stock.
Musk’s wealth rose by roughly $65 billion across Friday and Monday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, bringing his fortune to about $1.04 trillion. Forbes separately estimated that his wealth increased by $30.6 billion on Monday alone.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos remained far behind Musk, with an estimated fortune of about $371.5 billion, according to Forbes figures reported Monday.
Musk first crossed the trillion-dollar threshold in June after SpaceX completed a record-setting public debut. The company's shares were initially priced at $135, pushing Musk’s fortune to unprecedented levels.
The milestone did not last. SpaceX shares subsequently declined, along with Tesla, sending Musk’s estimated wealth back below $1 trillion. Bloomberg’s index showed his fortune falling significantly from its June peak before the latest recovery.
The latest surge has been driven primarily by SpaceX. The company’s shares jumped 7.63% on Monday to close at $171.09, their highest closing price since June and about 24% above the company’s $135 IPO price.
Tesla shares also advanced on Monday, adding to Musk’s wealth. More than 98% of his fortune is now tied to his holdings in SpaceX and Tesla, making his net worth highly sensitive to movements in the two companies’ shares.
Several recent developments have contributed to renewed investor interest in Musk’s companies. Tesla reported better-than-expected third-quarter vehicle deliveries, while SpaceX recently completed a successful orbital flight of its Starship rocket.
Wall Street analysts have also become more positive about SpaceX. Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas described the company’s shares as undervalued and maintained a $300 price target, citing potential opportunities involving artificial intelligence, Starship and other businesses.
SpaceX’s strong market performance has also increased the value investors place on Musk’s broader technology and infrastructure portfolio. The company now incorporates xAI following the combination of Musk’s space and artificial intelligence businesses.
Musk has simultaneously remained involved in U.S. political and technology policy discussions. He recently attended a White House meeting with President Donald Trump and other technology executives as the administration promoted its preferred terminology of “super intelligence” for artificial intelligence.
Following Trump’s executive order, Musk said SpaceX’s AI division, SpaceXAI, would be renamed SpaceXSI. The announcement aligned Musk’s corporate branding with the administration’s terminology shift.
The proposed rebranding has generated discussion over whether changing the terminology adds a meaningful technological distinction. The term “superintelligence” is generally used in AI discussions to describe hypothetical systems whose capabilities exceed those of humans across a broad range of intellectual tasks.
Musk’s relationship with Trump has itself undergone several changes. He supported Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign and later became closely involved with the administration through the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.
The billionaire’s return to trillionaire status also highlights the volatility of wealth tied heavily to publicly traded technology companies. Musk’s fortune has moved by tens of billions of dollars within individual trading sessions as investors reassess the prospects of SpaceX and Tesla.
His latest rise therefore reflects not only the scale of Musk’s holdings but also the increasing market value investors are assigning to SpaceX’s businesses spanning launch services, satellite connectivity, artificial intelligence and other technology ventures.
For now, Musk remains well ahead of other billionaires on the major wealth rankings, with his estimated fortune once again above the $1 trillion mark. However, because much of his wealth is linked to SpaceX and Tesla shares, the figure can change substantially with movements in the stock market.
