### Elon Musk to Rename SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI Following Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ Push

Elon Musk plans to rename SpaceX’s artificial intelligence division from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, aligning the unit’s name with President Donald Trump’s recent push to replace the term “artificial intelligence” with “super intelligence.”

Musk announced the planned change in posts on X on October 4. Responding to a question about whether SpaceXAI would become SpaceXSI, Musk confirmed that the change would be made. In another post, he wrote, “No more AI. SI. It’s better.”

The announcement follows an executive order Trump signed on September 29 directing federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in most official communications and non-statutory documents.

The White House order, titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence,” says the terminology is intended to reflect what the administration describes as the increasingly advanced capabilities of modern AI systems. It also defines “Super Intelligence” and “SI” for purposes of the order using the existing federal statutory definition of artificial intelligence.

The order further directs the assistant to the president for science and technology to submit proposed legislative language within 60 days for establishing a federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI.”

Musk’s decision gives the terminology a prominent corporate adoption beyond the federal government. SpaceX’s AI unit had been known as SpaceXAI, and the proposed SpaceXSI name would replace the “AI” abbreviation with “SI.”

The change comes as the Trump administration seeks to establish “super intelligence” as the preferred terminology in federal communications. On October 6, the Justice Department also directed its staff to use “super intelligence” in most contexts, including legal proceedings, according to Reuters.

The terminology shift has also become part of broader discussions between the administration and major technology companies. Trump recently hosted technology executives including Musk, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI president Greg Brockman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

The executives signed a voluntary “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities,” establishing a framework for companies to implement security and safety controls around advanced AI systems. The agreement is voluntary rather than a legally enforceable regulatory framework.

For Musk, the proposed renaming follows another major corporate development involving his AI operations. SpaceX completed its acquisition of xAI earlier this year in a transaction valued at approximately $1.25 trillion, bringing the two Musk-controlled companies together.

Before the acquisition, xAI operated as an independent artificial intelligence company founded by Musk in 2023. It subsequently became closely connected with X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The SpaceXAI name therefore represents a relatively recent identity for Musk’s AI operations, making the proposed SpaceXSI rebranding another change to the structure and branding of the business.

As of the latest reports, SpaceX’s websites and social-media accounts had not yet been updated to reflect the proposed new name, and Musk had not provided a specific timetable for when the rebranding would officially take effect.

The move also illustrates how terminology around advanced AI is becoming increasingly intertwined with government policy and the strategies of major technology companies.

While the federal order applies to executive-branch communications rather than private companies, Musk’s decision indicates that at least one major technology company intends to adopt the administration’s preferred terminology for its own AI operations.

Whether SpaceXSI becomes the long-term name of the division will depend on how SpaceX implements Musk’s announcement in its corporate branding, websites and other public materials.

For now, Musk’s planned change marks one of the most visible corporate responses to Trump’s effort to shift official terminology from “artificial intelligence” to “super intelligence.”
