**Spotify Lets Parents Keep Kids’ Music Out of Recommendations and Wrapped**

Spotify is introducing a new feature designed to help parents prevent their children’s listening habits from affecting personalized recommendations and annual Wrapped results.

Announced on September 15, the new setting allows users to exclude children’s and family-oriented music from their Spotify taste profile.

Once activated, songs aimed at children will no longer influence personalized features such as Discover Weekly and Daily Mix.

The excluded listening activity will also be removed from the data used to generate the user’s year-end Spotify Wrapped summary.

The feature is being rolled out globally on mobile devices and is available to both free and Premium subscribers.

The setting is optional and is initially turned on by default, meaning users must manually disable the inclusion of children’s music if they want to keep it separate from their personal listening profile.

Spotify said the option is intended to address a common issue among families that share accounts or connected devices.

Smart televisions, speakers and other devices in family homes are frequently connected to a parent’s Spotify account.

Children may also use a parent’s account during car trips, while playing music in bedrooms or when listening together with family members.

Those listening sessions can unintentionally influence Spotify’s understanding of the account holder’s musical preferences.

The effect can become particularly noticeable in Spotify Wrapped, where songs played for children may appear alongside the adult user’s regular listening history.

The new setting can exclude a broad range of children’s content, including songs from animated films, family television programs, nursery rhymes and other music specifically created for younger audiences.

Spotify is also making the feature retroactive.

This means that previously played children’s music can be excluded from Wrapped calculations after the setting has been activated.

The company previously offered users the ability to remove individual songs or playlists from their taste profile.

However, that approach required people to manually identify and exclude each piece of music.

The new feature provides a broader option for parents who regularly share their accounts with children.

Spotify has also been expanding its family-oriented controls and tools for managing children’s listening activity.
