### Salesforce Reportedly in Talks to Acquire Listen Labs for $2 Billion

Salesforce is reportedly in discussions to acquire AI-powered customer research startup Listen Labs for approximately $2 billion, a deal that could significantly expand the cloud software company’s artificial intelligence capabilities.

The reported acquisition talks appear to have disrupted Listen Labs’ plans to raise additional venture capital through a Series C funding round.

According to TechCrunch, Listen Labs had previously signed a term sheet for a $125 million Series C investment that would have valued the company at $1.5 billion.

Menlo Ventures was expected to lead that funding round, but the transaction was never completed and Listen Labs subsequently withdrew from the agreement.

The unusual decision to abandon a signed funding arrangement was reportedly connected to the company’s discussions with Salesforce over a potential acquisition.

The proposed transaction has not yet been finalized, meaning the deal could still change or fail to close.

If completed at the reported $2 billion price, Salesforce would acquire Listen Labs at a valuation significantly higher than the $1.5 billion figure outlined in its Series C agreement.

Salesforce shares declined about 1.9% on Wednesday after reports of the potential acquisition became public.

Listen Labs was founded in 2023 by Florian JĂĽngermann and Alfred Wahlforss, who met while studying at Harvard University.

The startup uses artificial intelligence to conduct customer interviews through video and audio, helping companies collect and analyze feedback more efficiently.

Its technology is designed to reduce the time and resources required to conduct large-scale customer research and identify useful insights from conversations.

Listen Labs counts major companies including Microsoft, Canva, Anthropic, Perplexity and Sweetgreen among its customers.

The startup most recently raised $69 million in a Series B funding round in January at a valuation of approximately $500 million.

Ribbit Capital led that round, with Sequoia, Conviction and Pear VC also participating as returning investors.

A $2 billion acquisition would represent a fourfold increase from Listen Labs’ $500 million valuation just months earlier.

The reported purchase price would also represent a substantial premium relative to the company’s current business scale.

With annual revenue of approximately $30 million, a $2 billion acquisition would value Listen Labs at roughly 67 times its annualized revenue.

For Salesforce, the technology could strengthen its growing portfolio of AI-powered customer tools.

Listen Labs could give Salesforce customers additional capabilities for gathering, analyzing and interpreting feedback directly within a broader business software environment.

Such integration could allow companies to move more quickly from collecting customer opinions to identifying trends and making business decisions.

The acquisition could also increase competitive pressure on standalone customer-research platforms as specialized AI capabilities become embedded directly into larger enterprise software ecosystems.

Salesforce is already pursuing an aggressive acquisition strategy as it expands its AI and enterprise technology offerings.

The company acquired customer-agent provider Finn for $3.6 billion in June and has also added Contentful, m3ter, Momentum and Cimulate to its portfolio.

Salesforce plans to incorporate m3ter’s technology into its Agentforce Revenue Management platform, reflecting its broader strategy of integrating specialized technologies into its enterprise ecosystem.

The reported Listen Labs discussions also come amid strong investor interest in AI companies operating in the enterprise software market.

Salesforce rival Simile recently raised $200 million in a Series B round at a $2 billion valuation, demonstrating the high valuations investors are placing on AI-driven business software.

If the Salesforce transaction does not move forward, Listen Labs could potentially return to the venture capital market and resume its fundraising efforts.

For now, the potential acquisition highlights the growing value of AI tools that can automate customer research and convert large amounts of feedback into actionable business intelligence.
