San Diego AI startup Ollie secures $7.5 million in seed funding
Ollie AI, a San Diego-based artificial intelligence startup focused on household management, has raised $7.5 million in seed funding led by venture capital firm Khosla Ventures.

The company was co-founded and is led by CEO Bill Lennon, who aims to use AI to simplify the growing administrative workload involved in managing modern households.

Ollie AI provides a digital assistant that operates through text messaging on iOS and Android, allowing families to coordinate everyday responsibilities through a familiar communication channel.

Household management often involves a continuous stream of tasks, including coordinating family schedules, maintaining grocery lists, arranging appointments and keeping track of responsibilities.

Ollie is designed to bring many of these activities together through a single AI-powered assistant.

The platform can connect with email and calendar services to help users organize weekly schedules and manage routine household activities.

Its features include creating meal plans, tracking shared tasks, organizing grocery orders, scheduling appointments and assisting with bill payments.

Families can also add Ollie to group conversations, allowing the assistant to respond to questions and update shared lists as household plans change.

The company says its approach is designed to reduce the amount of back-and-forth communication required to keep family members coordinated.

Privacy and security are also central to Ollie’s technology strategy, particularly because the platform may handle sensitive household information and assist with online transactions.

When users need to access external websites or complete payments, Ollie uses cloud-based browser sessions where users authenticate themselves directly.

This approach is designed to prevent users from having to provide their account passwords directly to the AI platform.

Ollie also says it does not sell customer information or use users’ personal inputs to train large language models.

Instead of developing and operating its own large language models, the company relies on commercial AI APIs from providers including Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.

The startup plans to generate revenue through a subscription-based business model.

The strategy reflects a broader shift toward AI assistants that can move beyond answering questions and take action on behalf of users.

Rather than simply providing recommendations, Ollie is designed to execute routine tasks involving calendars, shopping, scheduling and household coordination.

The company believes this action-oriented approach could make AI more useful in everyday family life.

However, handling personal schedules, financial transactions and other household information also creates significant expectations around privacy and data security.

Ollie is positioning its privacy policies as a key differentiator as consumers increasingly evaluate AI products based not only on their capabilities but also on how their personal information is handled.

The new funding will support the company’s efforts to develop and expand its AI-powered household management platform.

The investment from Khosla Ventures also provides Ollie with additional backing as competition grows among startups developing specialized AI assistants.

As AI technology becomes increasingly capable of performing multi-step tasks, household management is emerging as another area where automated assistants could become part of consumers’ daily routines.

Ollie aims to build on that trend by combining messaging, AI and connected digital services into a single tool for family coordination.

The company’s long-term success will likely depend on whether households are willing to trust an AI assistant with increasingly important personal and administrative responsibilities.

With its latest funding, Ollie is seeking to establish itself as a reliable AI utility for families navigating the increasingly complex demands of everyday life.
