Nick Shirley claims fraudulent hospice providers abandoned Los Angeles location

Independent content creator Nick Shirley has claimed that several hospice care operators in Los Angeles abandoned their reported business locations following his recent on-the-ground investigations into alleged healthcare billing irregularities.

In a social media post, Shirley visited commercial properties where several hospice providers he had previously investigated were reportedly operating.

During the walkthrough, he showed what appeared to be largely empty offices and spoke with people at the location about the businesses that had previously occupied the premises.

Shirley alleged that many of the hospice operators had disappeared after facing increased public scrutiny from his reporting.

He described the development as evidence that businesses he had identified were attempting to avoid further exposure, while characterizing the operators as fraudulent.

In a video accompanying his post, Shirley moved through the commercial complex, visiting individual units and asking people about the hospice businesses.

Some people at the location reportedly told him that operators had left, while other businesses continued to operate from the property.

Shirley claimed that the departure of the specific hospice operations could have prevented more than $30 million in public funds from being spent at one commercial location.

He called on authorities to take broader action against what he described as potentially fraudulent healthcare operations and urged officials to investigate suspicious providers.

The claims follow months of social media reporting by Shirley focusing on alleged irregularities involving government-funded healthcare programs in California.

His investigations have frequently examined hospice providers and facilities that he says appeared to be receiving substantial public reimbursements despite having little visible activity at their listed locations.

In previous videos, Shirley has visited addresses associated with healthcare providers and documented locked offices, limited activity and an absence of visible patients or medical personnel.

He has also highlighted expensive vehicles and other signs of wealth outside some facilities, using them to question whether public healthcare funds were being improperly used.

However, the presence of luxury vehicles or an apparently empty office alone does not establish that a healthcare provider has committed fraud.

Federal and state authorities have prosecuted a number of alleged hospice fraud schemes in Southern California in recent years, including cases involving providers accused of submitting false claims or operating through fraudulent arrangements.

Authorities, however, have not publicly confirmed that the specific hospice operators featured in Shirley’s latest videos abandoned their locations because of his reporting.

There has also been no official confirmation that the businesses shown in the videos were engaged in fraudulent activity.

The circumstances surrounding the reported departures therefore remain unclear, and further investigation would be required to establish whether the businesses voluntarily closed, relocated, stopped operating or became subject to regulatory action.

Shirley has nevertheless presented the developments as a sign that increased public scrutiny can expose questionable healthcare operations.

His reporting has attracted significant attention online and has also brought him into discussions about alleged taxpayer fraud and government oversight.

He previously appeared before the U.S. Senate to discuss what he described as widespread taxpayer fraud schemes.

Shirley has also raised concerns about proposed legislation that he refers to as the “Stop Nick Shirley Act,” arguing that such measures could restrict his ability to conduct and publish similar investigations.

Despite those concerns, he has said he intends to continue examining suspicious healthcare providers across California.

The latest claims have renewed debate over oversight of government-funded healthcare programs and the need for authorities to identify and shut down fraudulent providers.

Whether the hospice businesses highlighted in Shirley’s latest investigation actually engaged in fraud remains a matter for regulators and law enforcement to determine.
