Oracle layoffs in India today? 3,000 job cuts beyond US
# Oracle’s India Workforce Faces Fresh Shock as 3,000 Jobs Reportedly Cut

Oracle is extending its sweeping workforce restructuring in India, with around 3,000 employees reportedly set to lose their jobs as the technology giant continues shifting its priorities toward artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.

The latest reduction adds another chapter to a year of significant changes across Oracle’s global workforce.

The company is simultaneously committing enormous sums to data centers and AI-related infrastructure, creating a striking contrast between its rising technology spending and declining employee numbers.

According to The Economic Times, Oracle is eliminating roughly 3,000 positions in India as part of a broader effort to reshape its workforce and redirect resources toward newer technology businesses.

The cuts reportedly began around September 1, coinciding with the start of Oracle’s fiscal second quarter.

The development follows an earlier wave of layoffs that affected employees across several countries, including the United States, India, Canada and Mexico.

During the March restructuring, employees were reportedly notified by email, with many receiving the messages early in the morning.

Affected workers were provided termination and severance information electronically, while access to Oracle’s internal systems was removed on the same day.

The latest round indicates that the restructuring has not ended and could continue as Oracle reassesses staffing needs across different parts of its business.

Oracle employs roughly 30,000 people in India, meaning the reported loss of 3,000 positions could amount to about 10% of its workforce in the country.

The impact comes after Oracle had already eliminated approximately 12,000 jobs in India during an earlier restructuring round this year.

Globally, Oracle’s employee count has also dropped sharply.

The company’s workforce declined from around 162,000 employees to approximately 141,000 during the fiscal year that ended May 31, 2026.

That represents a reduction of about 21,000 employees in a single fiscal year.

The workforce changes are taking place while Oracle is dramatically increasing spending on infrastructure designed to support AI and cloud services.

Reports citing Oracle’s financial disclosures indicate that the company invested approximately $55.7 billion in infrastructure during fiscal 2026.

Oracle has also reportedly turned to debt and stock sales to help fund its massive infrastructure expansion.

The company’s restructuring expenses have risen at the same time.

Oracle recorded approximately $1.8 billion in restructuring costs during fiscal 2026, compared with $374 million the previous year.

Its current restructuring plan is estimated to cost as much as $2.1 billion, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The possibility of another round of layoffs had already been circulating among employees before the latest reports emerged.

Business Insider previously reported that managers were being asked to identify positions that could potentially be eliminated.

Some teams were reportedly facing the possibility of workforce reductions reaching double-digit percentages.

The developments have fueled concerns among Oracle employees about how deeply the restructuring could affect individual divisions.

The company has not publicly confirmed every detail of the reported September reductions, including the precise number of affected workers in particular teams.

However, reports of approximately 3,000 job cuts in India highlight the scale of the ongoing transformation.

Oracle’s strategy reflects a broader technology-industry shift in which companies are directing greater resources toward AI computing capacity, cloud platforms and large-scale data centers.

For employees in India, however, the transition has brought another wave of uncertainty following the substantial job losses earlier this year.

For Oracle, the latest cuts underline a major strategic realignment: fewer employees in some traditional areas while billions of dollars are being directed toward the infrastructure expected to power its next phase of AI and cloud growth.
