Nebraska Medicine names new healthcare center Indian American donors

# Omaha Healthcare Center Named After Drs. Shikhar and Kristin Saxena

A new healthcare facility under construction in midtown Omaha has been named the **Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Health Center** in recognition of a major leadership gift from local physicians Drs. Shikhar and Kristin Saxena.

Nebraska Medicine announced the naming during a beam-signing ceremony at the facility, located near the southeast corner of 42nd and Farnam streets. University leaders, healthcare professionals and members of the Omaha community attended the event, which marked the completion of a major stage in construction by allowing participants to sign the building’s final structural beam.

The four-story health center is being supported by the Saxena Family Foundation as well as additional contributions from members of the local donor community. The philanthropic support is expected to strengthen Nebraska Medicine’s outpatient healthcare infrastructure and expand access to specialized services.

The Saxenas have longstanding connections to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Both earned their medical degrees from the UNMC College of Medicine in 2007 and have continued to contribute to the institution and the broader Omaha community.

Dr. Shikhar Saxena completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at UNMC before joining Nebraska Medicine as a cardiologist. He later co-founded Milan Laser Hair Removal and served as chairman of its board.

Dr. Kristin Saxena practiced pediatrics with Boys Town Pediatrics before becoming chief medical officer at Milan Laser. She left that position in 2020 to focus more extensively on philanthropic activities through the family foundation.

The new facility represents a $99.3 million investment and is scheduled to be completed in summer 2027. Nebraska Medicine expects to begin treating patients at the center in fall 2027.

Once operational, the Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Health Center will become the primary location for Nebraska Medicine’s dermatology program. It will also increase outpatient capacity for gastroenterology and behavioral health services, allowing more patients to receive specialized care in a modern, centralized facility.

Nebraska Medicine CEO Dr. Michael Ash said the project will help bring important clinical services together in an accessible location close to where people live and work. The facility is expected to improve convenience for patients while supporting the medical center’s growing outpatient needs.

UNMC Chancellor Dr. H. Dele Davies highlighted the importance of partnerships between public institutions and private donors in advancing healthcare infrastructure. He said collaboration between the university, Nebraska Medicine and the community can turn shared goals into major investments that benefit future generations.

Dr. Shikhar Saxena said the medical center has played an important role in saving lives, educating physicians and advancing medical innovation throughout the region. He described the new center as an opportunity to support that continuing mission.

Dr. Kristin Saxena emphasized that while advanced buildings and technology are important to modern healthcare, the foundation of effective patient care remains the people working within the system. Physicians, nurses, researchers and support staff, she said, are ultimately responsible for delivering compassionate and effective care.

The naming of the facility recognizes not only the Saxenas’ financial contribution but also their long-standing relationship with Nebraska’s medical community. The new center is expected to become an important addition to Omaha’s healthcare infrastructure when it opens to patients in 2027.
