Elon Musk calls for release of former police officer Derek Chauvin

Elon Musk has sparked renewed discussion over the case of former Minneapolis police officer **Derek Chauvin** after publicly calling for his release and describing his murder conviction as unjust. Musk argued on X that Chauvin should be freed, claiming that the former officer did not cause George Floyd’s death and did not intend to kill him. The comments came at a time when Chauvin’s legal team is pursuing another challenge to his state conviction.

His attorney, Gregory J. Joseph, has filed a motion asking the court to dismiss the murder charges, alleging that fundamental constitutional and procedural errors undermined the original prosecution. Among the defense claims is that Minnesota officials lacked proper authority in certain aspects of the prosecution and that the case did not follow the required indictment process. Chauvin was convicted in April 2021 after a Hennepin County jury found him guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in connection with Floyd’s death.
