Skanska signs $1.19 billion deal to build data centers in US

Swedish construction company Skanska has secured a **$1.19 billion contract** to build four new data centers in the southeastern United States, marking another major investment in the country’s rapidly expanding AI infrastructure. The customer has not been identified, with Skanska describing it as an existing client. Valued at 11.2 billion Swedish krona, the project is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2028.

The four facilities will cover approximately 75,000 square meters, with Skanska responsible for shell construction and interior fit-outs for technical spaces, support areas and offices. The contract comes as demand for data centers surges due to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The southeastern U.S. has emerged as a key data center hub, supported by relatively lower electricity costs, tax incentives and access to major fiber-optic networks. Skanska has already secured additional projects in the region, including a **$94 million data center in Virginia** and a **$255 million facility in Georgia**.

Major technology companies including Microsoft, Google, Meta and Nvidia are also expanding their computing infrastructure to meet rising AI demand. With billions of dollars flowing into new facilities, the latest Skanska deal highlights how the AI boom is creating significant opportunities for construction and infrastructure companies across the United States.
