Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is planning to install dedicated Islamic foot-washing stations in restrooms at Terminal D, giving Muslim travelers a designated space to perform ritual ablution before prayer. The project was registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation on July 31 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The approximately $300,000 project will be privately funded and will include separate ablution facilities for men and women within existing restroom areas. The stations, commonly known as wudu or ablution facilities, are designed to provide Muslim passengers with a cleaner and more convenient location to wash their feet as part of Islamic ritual purification. Wudu is traditionally performed before salah, or Islamic prayer, and involves washing several parts of the body, including the hands, mouth, nose, face, arms and feet. Performing the ritual in conventional airport restrooms can present practical challenges for travelers. Water from foot washing can splash onto bathroom floors, potentially creating slippery conditions and making the process less convenient. Dedicated stations are designed to address those concerns by providing purpose-built spaces for the practice. The new facilities will be located inside existing restrooms in Terminal D, allowing passengers to perform ablution without having to rely solely on conventional sinks. The project places DFW among a growing number of major U.S. airports providing dedicated facilities for Muslim passengers. Similar ablution stations are already available at airports such as Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport.
