### Salesforce to Cut 59 Jobs in Washington as Restructuring Continues

Salesforce is preparing to eliminate 59 positions across its Seattle and Bellevue offices in Washington state, adding to a series of workforce reductions as the software company continues to restructure its operations. According to a WARN filing submitted to the Washington Employment Security Department, the affected employees are expected to leave the company on October 5. The planned cuts cover a wide range of roles, reflecting changes across several areas of Salesforce’s business rather than being limited to a single department.

Positions affected include software engineers, technical support engineers, incident commanders, product management directors and employees working in marketing and sustainability leadership. The latest layoffs represent another round of restructuring for Salesforce and mark the third time the company has announced workforce reductions this year. The San Francisco-based technology company is also reducing its workforce at its headquarters, where reports indicate that another 74 employees are expected to lose their jobs as part of the ongoing organizational changes.

The restructuring comes alongside leadership changes within the company, including the recent promotion of Miguel Milano to chief operating officer. Salesforce has increasingly positioned artificial intelligence as a major component of its strategy for improving productivity and operating efficiency. Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff has previously highlighted the role of AI tools in helping employees accomplish more work, while the company has simultaneously reduced its overall workforce. Salesforce has previously carried out layoffs in Washington, including a separate round that eliminated 93 positions in the state.

The company’s current workforce adjustments therefore reflect a broader effort to reshape its organization as AI and automation become increasingly important to its business strategy. Despite cutting jobs in several areas, Salesforce continues to invest in senior technical leadership. Krishna Kumar Parthasarathy, a former Microsoft cybersecurity executive, recently joined the company as executive vice president of engineering. He is expected to oversee engineering efforts connected to Salesforce’s Agentforce platform, which is central to the company’s push into AI-powered enterprise software and autonomous agents. Washington remains an important market for Salesforce even as the company reduces its local workforce.

The company established a significant presence in the region following its $15.7 billion acquisition of Seattle-based data visualization company Tableau in 2019. Salesforce has also recently renewed its lease for approximately 114,000 square feet of office space at the Data 1 building in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. The decision to maintain a substantial office footprint suggests that Salesforce continues to view the region as strategically important despite the current job reductions. The layoffs are also taking place amid broader workforce pressure across Washington’s technology sector.

Other major technology companies have announced job cuts in the state, including Google, which plans to eliminate 52 positions, and Zillow, which is reducing its workforce by 91 employees. The latest reductions highlight the continued adjustment taking place across the technology industry as companies balance traditional staffing models with investments in artificial intelligence and automation. For Salesforce, the challenge is to streamline its organization while continuing to expand AI-focused products and maintain its presence in key technology markets.

The Washington layoffs are therefore part of a larger transformation rather than an indication that Salesforce is abandoning the region.
