Anthropic signs $10 billion deal with AI cloud startup Volta

Anthropic has reportedly entered into a $10 billion, six-year agreement with AI cloud startup Volta to significantly expand the computing infrastructure powering its Claude AI models, according to Bloomberg. Founded in 2026, Volta specializes in vertically integrated AI infrastructure, combining financing, data centers, GPU compute, software, and operations into a single platform designed to accelerate AI deployment while lowering infrastructure costs.

As part of the partnership, crypto-mining company Bitdeer will work with Volta to build a 133-megawatt AI data center in Norway, powered by Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin systems. Volta, which operates a rent-a-GPU model similar to CoreWeave and Nscale, is also part of Nvidia's Cloud Partner Program. The startup recently emerged from stealth after raising $300 million in seed and Series A funding at a $2.4 billion valuation, backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Nvidia, and Michael Dell's family office.

Anthropic's latest agreement reflects its aggressive push to secure massive computing capacity as competition among leading AI companies intensifies. In recent months, the company has signed several major infrastructure partnerships, including a deal with SpaceX to access more than 300 megawatts of computing power and over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs at the Colossus 1 data center, helping expand services for Claude Pro and Claude Max users.

Earlier this year, Amazon also agreed to provide Anthropic with up to 5 gigawatts of Trainium AI chips while committing an initial $5 billion investment, with plans to invest up to $20 billion more. As AI models continue to grow in size and complexity, securing reliable computing infrastructure has become a strategic priority, with companies increasingly investing billions of dollars to ensure long-term access to advanced AI hardware and cloud capacity.
