Indian American professor Karthik Sastry awarded Princeton preceptorship
Indian American economist Karthik Sastry has been awarded the prestigious John Witherspoon Bicentennial Preceptorship at Princeton University, recognizing his outstanding contributions to economic research and public policy. The three-year appointment runs from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029, and supports promising early-career faculty members in advancing their research.

An assistant professor of economics and public affairs, Sastry is also a member of the executive committee of Princeton's M.S. Chadha Center for Global India. His research explores the intersection of macroeconomics, innovation, environmental policy, and economic theory, with a particular focus on how societies respond to climate change and how behavioral factors influence economic cycles.

Sastry earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Princeton in 2016 before completing his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2022. He also serves as a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), contributing to studies on economic growth, environmental economics, and business fluctuations.

His academic work has been published in leading international journals, covering topics such as climate policy, monetary economics, and supply-side theory. Through his research, Sastry seeks to better understand how technological innovation and public policy can help address some of the world's most pressing economic and environmental challenges.

Princeton's Bicentennial Preceptorship is one of the university's highest honors for junior faculty in the humanities and social sciences. The award provides dedicated research funding and a year of paid research leave, enabling recipients to pursue ambitious scholarly projects.

The recognition reflects Sastry's growing influence in the field of economics and highlights Princeton University's continued commitment to supporting innovative research with global impact.
