Indian American cancer researcher Manoj Mishra joins national immunology body

Indian American cancer researcher Dr. Manoj Mishra has been appointed to the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Career Development Core Committee, marking another significant achievement in his distinguished scientific career. His two-year term officially began on July 1, 2026, placing him among national leaders shaping the future of immunology.

As a committee member, Dr. Mishra will contribute to initiatives focused on career development, professional training, mentorship, and educational opportunities for immunologists across the United States. The committee plays a key role in strengthening the scientific community by supporting researchers at every stage of their careers.

Currently serving as a professor of biology and founding director of the Cancer Research Center at Alabama State University, Dr. Mishra has led groundbreaking work in tumor immunology, prostate cancer research, and cancer health disparities. His leadership has also expanded research opportunities and mentoring programs for undergraduate and graduate students, helping nurture the next generation of biomedical scientists.

Originally from India, Dr. Mishra completed his undergraduate studies at DAV College, Siwan, followed by a master's degree and Ph.D. at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi. He later moved to the United States for advanced postdoctoral research at Kansas State University, Washington University School of Medicine, and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Before joining Alabama State University in 2009, he worked as a research scientist at the Medical College of Wisconsin and continues to hold an adjunct appointment at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His latest appointment not only recognizes his scientific contributions but also highlights Alabama State University's growing impact in biomedical research and cancer innovation.
