Microsoft’s Satya Nadella says companies are ‘paying for their own IP,’ offers fix
**Satya Nadella Warns Businesses of AI's ‘Reverse Information Paradox’**

Microsoft CEO **Satya Nadella** has cautioned businesses about a growing challenge in the artificial intelligence era, describing it as the **"reverse information paradox."** In a widely discussed post on X, Nadella argued that companies may unknowingly pay twice when adopting AI—first with money and then by sharing valuable proprietary knowledge that helps AI systems become smarter.

According to Nadella, the more organizations rely on AI to improve performance, the more internal knowledge, business processes, and strategic information they must provide. Over time, this creates an imbalance where AI providers gain deeper insights into their customers, while businesses have limited visibility into how their own data is being used to improve future AI models.

To protect their competitive advantage, Nadella encouraged enterprises to maintain ownership of their institutional knowledge, including internal data, feedback, decision-making processes, and AI-generated outputs. He also recommended building secure private AI environments where organizations can train and fine-tune models without exposing sensitive information to external platforms.

Another key recommendation was avoiding dependence on a single AI provider. By keeping the software layer that manages AI tools independent, businesses can choose the best model for each task, improve flexibility, reduce costs, and maintain greater control over their AI strategy.

The comments come as Microsoft continues expanding its own artificial intelligence capabilities and reportedly reduces its reliance on third-party AI models. Nadella believes companies that protect their knowledge while building their own continuous AI learning systems will be better positioned to unlock long-term value in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
